About this stay

The free airport shuttle is listed from 4 am to midnight, and it does not wait at arrivals: at YVR you call the hotel from the courtesy phone in the shuttle pick-up area. For a flight that leaves at dawn, book a seat on the early morning run when you check in, rather than counting on a spare place at the front desk that morning. Lansdowne Centre, a shopping mall about three minutes away on foot, is the quick fix for a forgotten charger or toiletries the evening before.

The Canada Line is the second way in and out. Lansdowne station is a 10 to 11-minute walk and Aberdeen about 14 minutes. Both sit on the Richmond–Brighouse branch, so trains run straight to Waterfront in downtown Vancouver, while a train back to YVR means changing at Bridgeport, the last station before the airport and Richmond branches split. Parking at the hotel is limited and allocated first come, first served, one more reason to arrive by shuttle or train rather than in a rental car.

  • Free shuttle to Vancouver International Airport
  • On Alexandra Road, Richmond's "Hungry Street" of restaurants
  • Lansdowne Centre about three minutes on foot
  • Café, Bella Roma Italiano Bar, fitness room and business centre
  • About 140 rooms over six floors, built in 1998 and renovated in 2014
  • Rated 7.7 across 2,980 reviews

Our take

Number 8368 Alexandra Road puts the Grand Park on the strip locals call Wai Sek Gai, "Hungry Street": the Richmond News counted at least 44 licensed restaurants between No. 3 Road and Garden City Road alone. That address is the reason to pick it over the hotels on Sea Island. You land at YVR, ride the free shuttle, and dinner is dumplings or Cantonese seafood on foot. Inside you get a café, the Bella Roma Italiano Bar, a fitness room and a business centre; parking is limited and paid. Its 2,980 reviews average 7.7. I would book it for one or two nights around a flight, not as a base for a week of Vancouver sightseeing.

  • ✓At YVR, the free shuttle runs at scheduled times: go to the shuttle pick-up area at arrivals and call the hotel on the courtesy phone there.
  • ✓Jade Seafood, at 8511 Alexandra Road on the same street, is a dim sum stop on Tourism Richmond's self-guided Dumpling Trail of more than 15 addresses.
  • ✓Lansdowne Centre is about three minutes away on foot, and Lansdowne station on the Canada Line, along No. 3 Road, takes you to downtown Vancouver without a car.
  • ✓Arriving in a rental car, return it at YVR first: hotel parking is limited, paid and allocated first come, first served.

Why we love it

  • Free airport shuttle, listed from 4 am to midnight
  • Lansdowne Canada Line station 10 to 11 minutes on foot
  • Direct trains from Lansdowne to Waterfront in downtown Vancouver
  • Dim sum and Cantonese restaurants a short walk from the lobby
Why guests love it

For a family the Grand Park works as a one-night bridge between a long-haul flight and the rest of Canada. The shuttle spares you a taxi with tired children and luggage, and Alexandra Road puts noodle houses, dumpling counters and Cantonese seafood rooms a few minutes away on foot, so nobody has to get back in a vehicle for dinner. What it cannot offer is a second day: the streets around are restaurants and shopping centres rather than parks. The building dates from 1998, was renovated in 2014 and has about 140 rooms over six floors. With children I would sleep here on arrival, then move to downtown Vancouver or the North Shore for the sightseeing days.
