About this stay

Bresoles works best for travellers who want Old Montreal on foot and a kitchen of their own. From rue de Brésoles, Notre-Dame Basilica is about 100 metres away, Place Jacques-Cartier and the Old Port are a short walk downhill, and the Clock Tower Beach at the eastern end of the port is roughly 17 minutes on foot. Every one of the 46 apartments has a kitchen, a washer-dryer and a smart TV, so a week here means fewer restaurant bookings and lighter luggage on the cobbles.

The format is the trade-off. There is no classic front desk: you complete an online registration and receive an access code by email before arrival. That works at any hour, but nobody is downstairs to sort out a problem in person, and help comes remotely. Drivers should know that the metered spots on rue de Brésoles are limited to two or three hours depending on the stretch, so a car in Old Montreal means a public garage for the length of the stay.

  • 46 apartments with kitchen and washer-dryer
  • Rooftop terrace and a spa offering massages
  • About 100 m from Notre-Dame Basilica
  • About six minutes' walk to Place-d'Armes metro
  • Self check-in with an access code sent by email

Our take

Bresoles occupies 53 rue de Brésoles, a short street about 100 metres from Notre-Dame Basilica and Place d'Armes, so most of Old Montreal is within a ten-minute walk. Its 46 units are apartments, each with a kitchen, a washer-dryer and a smart TV, and the building adds a rooftop terrace and a spa. The catch is the absence of a front desk: you register online, receive an access code by email, and any problem is handled remotely rather than by someone downstairs. I would book it for a longer city stay with your own breakfasts, not for travellers who want staff on site when something in the apartment stops working.

  • ✓Place-d'Armes station on the Orange line is about six minutes on foot and Square-Victoria-OACI about eleven, which covers downtown and the Plateau without a car.
  • ✓From the airport, take the 747-2 shuttle to Lionel-Groulx (30 to 35 minutes), then the Orange line to Place-d'Armes; the 747 fare covers bus and metro for 24 hours.
  • ✓Look out for the online registration link and the access-code email before you fly: they are your way in, and there is no desk to fall back on.
  • ✓Metered spots on rue de Brésoles are limited to two or three hours depending on the stretch and some weekday mornings carry a parking ban in the warmer months, so plan on a public garage if you drive.

Why we love it

  • Old Port and Place Jacques-Cartier a short walk downhill
  • Clock Tower Beach about 17 minutes on foot
  • A full kitchen for a week of self-catered breakfasts
  • Airport by the 747 and the Orange line, no car needed
Why guests love it

Bresoles rents apartments, not rooms, and that is the real argument for families: a kitchen means breakfast and snacks on your own schedule, and a washer-dryer handles the laundry that piles up with children. Notre-Dame Basilica is about 100 metres away, and the Old Port, with the Montréal Science Centre on the King Edward Quay and an outdoor skating rink in winter, is an easy walk downhill. What parents give up is staff on site: arrival works with an access code sent by email, and if something is missing or breaks, help comes remotely. With a toddler, that can feel thin. With school-age children and a plan, it works well, and the rooftop terrace gives adults somewhere to sit once the kids are asleep.
