Stays in Montréal
Old Montreal is where I would sleep for a first visit or a couple's trip: Notre-Dame Basilica, the Old Port and Place Jacques-Cartier are all on foot, and Hôtel Saint-Sulpice stands on rue Saint-Sulpice right beside the basilica. The catch is the car-free season. In 2026 the city closed rue Saint-Paul Est between rue du Marché-Bonsecours and boulevard Saint-Laurent to traffic from 15 April to 29 October, along with Place Jacques-Cartier, so a taxi can leave you a block or more from the door, on cobbles, with your suitcase. In 2026 the Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada was held from 22 to 24 May at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, and the Festival International de Jazz ran from 25 June to 4 July, with about two-thirds of its 350-plus shows free, in and around Place des Festivals. HONEYROSE faces that square, so on festival nights the stages play under your window: right if you came for the music, wrong if you need sleep before an early flight. Best Western Plus, on Sainte-Catherine Est, is a few blocks east of the main stages. From November to March I would switch to downtown. The RÉSO, listed by Guinness World Records in November 2023 as the largest pedestrian subway network at 32 km, links stations such as Bonaventure, McGill and Place-des-Arts to their malls, so in January you can walk between them without a coat. In the Golden Square Mile, Le Mount Stephen occupies the mansion completed in 1883 for George Stephen, first president of the Canadian Pacific Railway, classified a historic monument by Quebec in 1975. Around Square Saint-Louis, a park ringed by Victorian greystone row houses with a bust of the poet Émile Nelligan near the house where he lived, the Hôtel de l'ITHQ belongs to Quebec's institute of tourism and hotel studies, with the bars of rue Saint-Denis down the street. For a second visit, the Plateau-Mont-Royal, around Mont-Royal station on the orange line, trades the monuments for residential streets of row houses and cafés; from the airport, the 747 to Lionel-Groulx and the orange line take you there without changing buses.
For a first stay in Montreal, the choice is between Old Montreal, for the cobbled lanes and the Old Port, and downtown, for the métro and the underground RÉSO; the Quartier latin, around Square Saint-Louis, sits between the two. Old Montreal puts Notre-Dame Basilica and the river on foot. Downtown keeps you on the green and orange métro lines, with covered walkways for winter. The Quartier latin has UQAM, the bars of rue Saint-Denis and Berri-UQAM station, where the green, orange and yellow lines meet.
From Montréal-Trudeau airport, the STM 747 bus runs 24 hours a day, year-round, in two variants. The 747-1 Centre-ville stops along boulevard René-Lévesque to its terminus at René-Lévesque and Berri, by Berri-UQAM métro, in 45 to 70 minutes; the 747-2 Métro runs straight to Lionel-Groulx station in 30 to 35 minutes. Keep the 747 ticket: it also covers 24 hours of unlimited STM bus and métro travel, which takes care of your first day in town.
Arriving by VIA Rail, you step off at Gare Centrale, 895 rue De La Gauchetière Ouest, which is also a stop on the REM light metro. The station connects directly to Bonaventure métro on the orange line, a covered walk through Place Ville Marie leads to McGill station on the green line, and the same underground network runs on to the Bell Centre, so downtown hotels are reachable without going outside. I would pick a downtown base for a train arrival in January.
Montréal in numbers
4.7Hotel Kutuma
Romantic · 519 reviewsSpacious suites with kitchens and Ethiopian dining near Plateau Mont-Royal
Why guests love itSpacious suites with full kitchens make Hotel Kutuma one of the easier Montreal addresses I would suggest for families. Cooking a simple dinner or preparing snacks saves a lot of restaurant outings with children, and a continental breakfast is served daily. The Plateau Mont-Royal is about 1 km away, and Old Montreal is less than ten minutes by car. Valet service removes the parking question, and guests give the hotel a high 9.4 across 519 reviews.
4.7Self Check-In Boutique Hotel - Quartier latin - Room 201
Downtown · 64 reviewsBoutique aparthotel in the Latin Quarter with self check-in
Why guests love itRoom 201 is a two-bedroom aparthotel unit in Montreal's Latin Quarter, which gives a family separate sleeping space instead of one shared hotel room. Self check-in and check-out make late arrivals and early departures easy, and air-conditioning helps during Montreal's humid summers. There is no restaurant or front desk listed, so meals happen in the neighbourhood. I recommend it for independent families who like a central base, and the 9.4 rating from 64 reviews is reassuring.
4.7Habitat
Romantic · 32 reviewsAparthotel with city views, full kitchens, and easy metro access
Why guests love itApartment-style units with a fully equipped kitchen and a washing machine make Habitat a practical Montreal base for families, particularly on a longer visit. Each unit has a balcony with city views, air-conditioning and free WiFi. Berri-UQAM metro station is nearby, so Place des Arts and Mount Royal Park are easy to reach with children without a car. The score is excellent, 9.4, though it rests on only 32 reviews so far.
4.7Le Petit Hotel Notre Dame
Romantic · 64 reviewsCharming hotel in Old Montreal, steps from Notre Dame Basilica
Why guests love itLe Petit Hotel Notre Dame sits near Notre Dame Basilica, Place Jacques-Cartier and Clock Tower Beach, which puts a family in the middle of Old Montréal on foot, with ice-skating and boating nearby. 4.7Four Seasons Hotel Montreal
Spa & Wellness · 175 reviewsIndoor pool, spa and hot tub at a pet-friendly Montreal luxury hotel
Why guests love itFour Seasons Hotel Montreal is listed as family-friendly, and the indoor swimming pool is what I would mention first to parents, since it works in every season. A hot tub and a spa and wellness centre give adults their own time, and the rooms are air-conditioned with private bathrooms and electric kettles for a warm drink. Pets are welcome too. For families arriving by electric car, the on-site charging station is a practical detail that is easy to overlook.
4.6Maison Sainte-Thérèse By Maisons & co

4.6HONEYROSE Hotel, Montreal, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel
Downtown · 1526 reviewsCity centre hotel with an indoor pool, sauna, and hot tub
Why guests love itHoneyrose Hotel puts families in central Montreal, close to the Eaton Centre, the Convention Centre, McGill University and the Museum of Contemporary Art. The indoor pool with a view is the highlight for children after a day of walking, and parents can use the sauna, hot tub and fitness centre. A restaurant and a bar are on site, so dinner can stay simple when everyone is tired. It is a convenient base for exploring downtown on foot.
4.6Hotel Gault
Downtown · 517 reviewsLuxury boutique hotel in Old Montreal with heated bathroom floors and a cozy library
Why guests love itHotel Gault is a contemporary boutique hotel in Old Montreal, and its spacious rooms, heated bathroom floors and large picture windows make a family stay feel calm rather than cramped. Children may enjoy the library with its fireplace and the DVD rentals on a quiet evening, and the gourmet breakfast is a good start to a day of walking. Pets are accepted. With a 9.1 score from 517 reviews, I would choose it for a refined family weekend.
4.6Eurostars Old Montreal Suites & Apartments
Spa & Wellness · 1084 reviewsSpacious aparthotel suites with a spa and fitness room in Old Montreal

Each air-conditioned unit has a fully equipped kitchen, a private bathroom, a washing machine and a TV. A sauna, steam room, fitness room and hammam are available. The Old Port is 500 metres away and Notre Dame Basilica is under a kilometre.
4.6Self Check-In Boutique Hotel - Quartier latin - Room 301
Downtown · 61 reviewsTwo-bedroom aparthotel with private check-in in Montreal's Latin Quarter
Why guests love itIn Montreal's Latin Quarter, Room 301 offers two bedrooms in a central aparthotel, handy for exploring downtown on foot. Parents and children can sleep in separate rooms, and a work desk, free WiFi and air-conditioning cover the practical side. Private check-in and check-out mean no waiting at a front desk, though there is no lobby or concierge to help with plans. I recommend it for families who travel independently, and a 9.1 rating from 61 reviews points to a well-kept apartment.
4.5Auberge du Vieux Port by Gray Collection
Spa & Wellness · 565 reviewsHistoric charm with river views and French-style dining in Old Montreal
Why guests love itAuberge du Vieux Port sits in Old Montreal facing the Saint Lawrence River and the Old Port, a setting children enjoy for walks along the waterfront. Inside, the mood leans adult: rooms with multi-jet showers and bathrobes, French-style dining at Taverne Gaspar, concierge service and valet parking. With a 9.0 guest score it is clearly well run, but I would choose it for a couple or a family with older children rather than toddlers.
4.5Warwick Le Crystal - Montréal
Downtown · 1994 reviewsElegant downtown hotel with a spa, saltwater pool, and city-view hot tub
Why guests love itWarwick Le Crystal offers families contemporary rooms with kitchenettes in downtown Montreal, which makes breakfasts and snacks simple. The saltwater pool is the main draw for children, and the hot tub on an open deck with city views is a memorable spot for parents, especially in winter. A gym and a spa with a sauna complete the facilities. The Bell Centre is a short walk away for a hockey game, and pets are accepted too.
4.5David Hotel
Family-Friendly · 886 reviewsHistoric building with city-view rooms and an Italian and seafood restaurant in Montréal
Why guests love itThe David Hotel is a 4-star address in a historic Montréal building, rated 9 out of 10 across 886 reviews. For families, the useful details are air-conditioned rooms with private bathrooms, streaming services for a quiet evening in, and an on-site restaurant serving Italian and seafood dishes where most children will find something they like. Private check-in and check-out keep arrivals simple with tired kids. I would choose it for a city break where staying close to the main sights matters.
4.5Hotel Railwayparc Montreal, Tapestry Collection By Hilton
Spa & Wellness · 128 reviewsComfortable rooms, fitness centre, and local cuisine near the airport
Why guests love itHotel Railwayparc Montreal has an excellent 9.0 rating from 128 reviews, and its on-site restaurant, bar and minimarket make meals and snacks with children easy to sort out. Rooms are air-conditioned with private bathrooms and free WiFi, and the sun terrace and outdoor seating give some fresh air. Private parking and an EV charging station help families arriving by car, and pets are accepted. There is no pool mentioned.
4.5Hôtel Le Germain Montréal
Downtown · 424 reviewsModern downtown hotel with in-room spa services and Quebec-made design
Why guests love itHotel Le Germain Montreal is a modern downtown hotel with a refined feel: rooms are furnished with Quebec-made, eco-friendly pieces and original artwork, with a 42-inch TV and a workstation. Parents can book in-room massage and spa services, and the restaurant serves authentic Quebec dishes, a good way to introduce children to local food. The lounge has a fireplace. With a 9.0 score from 424 reviews, I would choose it for a calm, central family stay or a couple's break.
4.5Le Mount Stephen
Spa & Wellness · 375 reviewsHistoric elegance meets modern luxury in Montreal's Golden Square Mile
Why guests love itLe Mount Stephen combines an 1880 mansion with a modern tower in Montreal's Golden Square Mile, and that mix decides whether it suits your family. It is a five-star address with 90 rooms and suites, marble bathrooms and a spa, so it fits older children and parents who want a refined city stay more than a playful one. Pets are welcome, which helps if the family dog travels too. Bar George, on site, makes dinner simple after a day around downtown.
4.5Bresoles Hotel
Spa & Wellness · 419 reviewsOld Montreal apartments with kitchens and a rooftop terrace, 100 m from Notre-Dame Basilica
Why guests love itBresoles rents apartments, not rooms, and that is the real argument for families: a kitchen means breakfast and snacks on your own schedule, and a washer-dryer handles the laundry that piles up with children. Notre-Dame Basilica is about 100 metres away, and the Old Port, with the Montréal Science Centre on the King Edward Quay and an outdoor skating rink in winter, is an easy walk downhill. What parents give up is staff on site: arrival works with an access code sent by email, and if something is missing or breaks, help comes remotely. With a toddler, that can feel thin. With school-age children and a plan, it works well, and the rooftop terrace gives adults somewhere to sit once the kids are asleep.
4.5Hôtel Saint-Sulpice
Downtown · 1054 reviewsSpacious suites in Old Montreal, steps from Notre-Dame Basilica
Why guests love itSpacious suites, many with a fully equipped kitchenette, make Hôtel Saint-Sulpice one of the easier Old Montreal addresses for families. The hotel stands directly behind Notre-Dame Basilica, so the cobbled streets of the old town start at the door, and having a kitchenette helps with breakfasts and snacks for children. The restaurant has a garden terrace, parents can use the spa, and pets are welcome. Guests rate it 8.9 across 1,054 reviews.
4.5Hôtel de l'ITHQ
Downtown · 1065 reviewsCulinary institute hotel with gourmet dining moments from the Latin Quarter
Why guests love itHôtel de l'ITHQ is run alongside Quebec's tourism and hotel institute, and that shows in the dining, which is a genuine reason to stay. For families, the central Montreal location matters more: the Latin Quarter, shops and cafes are a few minutes away on foot, so children are never far from a snack or a break. Rooms are modern and comfortable. A guest score of 8.9 across 1,065 reviews reflects consistent service.
4.5The Mercer Boutique Hotel
Boutique · 1401 reviewsBoutique aparthotel with kitchenettes and free parking near Old Montreal
Why guests love itThe Mercer Boutique Hotel is a four-star aparthotel in Montréal, and I would recommend it to families who want a kitchenette and free parking. Each air-conditioned unit has a kitchenette, a washing machine, a dishwasher and free WiFi, which suits a longer stay with children. A lift, a 24-hour front desk and a concierge service make arrival easy. The Old Port and the Montreal Convention Centre are close.
4.5Le Dauphin Montréal Centre-Ville
Downtown · 3335 reviewsA 114-room hotel at 1025 rue De Bleury, beside the Palais des congrès, between Chinatown and Old Montreal
Why guests love itLe Dauphin suits families who spend the whole day out: Chinatown is a few steps away, Old Montreal and the Old Port a short walk south, and Place-d'Armes metro is reached through the Palais des congrès once you have crossed Avenue Viger in the open air. The included breakfast gets everyone moving, and each room has a small fridge for milk and snacks. There is no pool, no play area and no restaurant on site. Parking is paid, which makes a car more of a burden here than an asset. I would book it for a short city break with school-age children, not for a long stay with toddlers.
4.5Hôtel Uville Montréal
Family-Friendly · 520 reviewsModern comfort with city views and diverse breakfast options
Why guests love itBreakfast choice is the detail I would underline for families at Hôtel Uville Montréal: continental, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are all offered, which helps when children or parents have dietary needs. Rooms are air-conditioned, with private bathrooms, free WiFi and streaming services for a quiet evening in. Some rooms face a calm street rather than the city. A coffee shop and a 24-hour front desk add convenience, and 520 reviews average 8.9.
4.4Hyatt Centric Montreal
Spa & Wellness · 1547 reviewsRooftop pool and courtyard-view rooms near Place Jacques-Cartier
Why guests love itThe rooftop pool is what families tend to remember at Hyatt Centric Montreal, a welcome break after a day in Old Montreal. Place Jacques-Cartier and the Clock Tower Beach in the Old Port are less than 1 km away, so outings with children stay on foot. Rooms are air-conditioned, some facing the inner courtyard, which is quieter at night. A restaurant and a sun terrace are on site, and pets are accepted.
4.4SonoLux
Airport · 12 reviewsModern, soundproofed rooms with city views near Old Port and Notre Dame
Why guests love itSonoLux is a small, modern Montreal hotel whose soundproofed rooms help light sleepers and children settle in a busy city. Rooms are air-conditioned with city views, a tea and coffee maker and free toiletries, and the restaurant serves dinner with a bar alongside. Its best asset is location near the Old Port and Notre-Dame Basilica, easy to explore on foot. With only a dozen reviews behind its 8.7 rating, it is still a young property.
4.1Hilton Garden Inn Montreal Midtown, Quebec, Canada
Spa & Wellness · 437 reviewsComfortable stay with an indoor pool and Italian dining near the airport
Why guests love itHilton Garden Inn Montreal Midtown gives a family the practical extras that matter on a city break: every room has a refrigerator and a microwave for snacks and simple breakfasts, plus air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi. Children can use the indoor pool after a day of sightseeing, and the traditional Italian restaurant on site keeps dinner easy. There is also a fitness centre. With an 8.2 score from 437 reviews, I would book it as a reliable Montreal base.
4.1Bakan- Quartier des Congres, Convention District
Downtown · 1721 reviewsModern aparthotel in the Convention District with kitchenettes and city views
Why guests love itBakan, in Montreal's Convention District, is an aparthotel rather than a classic hotel, and I would recommend it to families who want to cook and do laundry. Each air-conditioned unit has a kitchenette, a private bathroom, a washing machine, a dishwasher, free WiFi and city views. It is a short walk from the Montreal Convention Centre, the Museum of Contemporary Art and Notre Dame Basilica. Expect no hotel services beyond the unit.
4.1Best Western Plus Hotel Montreal
Spa & Wellness · 3171 reviewsFamily-friendly hotel in the Quartier des Spectacles with spa facilities
Why guests love itBest Western Plus Hotel Montreal places families in the Quartier des Spectacles, the downtown district of theatres, concert halls and outdoor festivals. Rooms are air-conditioned with private bathrooms, free toiletries and a hairdryer, and free WiFi runs throughout. The 24-hour front desk helps with late arrivals after a show or a long drive. Parents can use the spa and wellness facilities, and valet parking is available for a surcharge.
4.0SENS Høtel
