Montreal Hotels for an Easy YUL Airport Run

For an easy run to Montréal-Trudeau (YUL), stay downtown on the 747 bus line or west of the centre near the highways to Dorval: none of the 17 hotels on this page is at the airport itself. Fifteen sit in the central districts, from Old Montreal and the Convention District to the Quartier des Spectacles, the Latin Quarter and the Golden Square Mile. Two lie west of downtown, the Hilton Garden Inn Montreal Midtown on Boulevard Décarie and Hotel Railwayparc in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce. Together they average 8.9 out of 10 across more than 12,000 guest reviews. The 747 express bus runs 24 hours a day all year, which is what makes a downtown bed work before a dawn flight.

Montreal is an island city whose airport sits in Dorval, on the western side, while its hotels cluster at the other end, between Mount Royal and the St. Lawrence. French leads on the street and English is never far, and in winter much of daily life moves underground through the RÉSO walkways that link metro stations, malls and towers. That geography is why the transfer, more than the room, decides an airport stay here.

How to reach YUL from each district

Montreal still has no rail link to its airport: the REM light-rail station at YUL is under construction, with CDPQ Infra targeting an opening in 2027. Until then, the right hotel depends on how you will reach Dorval, on the western side of the island: the 747 express bus from downtown, the metro to Lionel-Groulx and the faster 747 branch from there, or a car on the western highways.

The 747 has two routes, and most visitors only know one. Route 747-1 makes 12 stops between YUL and Boulevard René-Lévesque at Rue Berri, serving Lionel-Groulx station and several hotels along René-Lévesque, and takes 45 to 70 minutes depending on traffic. Route 747-2 stops only at Lionel-Groulx, in front of the metro entrance on Avenue Atwater, and takes 30 to 35 minutes. Buses leave generally every 10 to 20 minutes in both directions during the day. At the airport, the stop is at door 28, in the international arrivals area, where the ticket machines and the STM information counter also stand.

Lionel-Groulx is the shortcut that works for almost every hotel on this page, because the Green and Orange metro lines meet there. From Old Montreal (Eurostars Old Montreal Suites, David Hotel, Hôtel Uville, Bresoles Hotel, Le Petit Hotel Notre Dame, SonoLux) and from Bakan and The Mercer Boutique Hotel near the Convention Centre, the Orange line runs straight there from Place-d'Armes or Square-Victoria-OACI. From the Quartier des Spectacles (Best Western Plus Hotel Montreal, HONEYROSE) and the Golden Square Mile (Four Seasons, Le Mount Stephen), the Green line does the same from Place-des-Arts, Peel or Guy-Concordia. One ride without a transfer, then the 747-2.

Since 26 January 2026, the downtown end of route 747-1 has been stop 52905 on Boulevard René-Lévesque at Rue Berri, moved because of works at Berri-UQAM. That puts the three Latin Quarter apartments in the best spot on this page for a bus at any hour: Habitat stands near Berri-UQAM station, and the two Self Check-In Boutique Hotel units, rooms 201 and 301, are in the same Latin Quarter around the station. From the metro, Exit B onto Rue Sainte-Catherine Est is the one for the stop. The Gare d'autocars de Montréal, the intercity coach station, is about ten minutes away on foot.

The two hotels west of downtown are the ones to choose if you are returning a rental car or driving yourself to Dorval. The Hilton Garden Inn Montreal Midtown stands at 6939 Boulevard Décarie, within a five-minute walk of Namur station on the Orange line, along the Décarie Expressway that leads to Autoroute 40, the usual road west towards the airport. Hotel Railwayparc, a 73-room Tapestry Collection hotel at 6645 Rue Saint-Jacques in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, has on-site private parking and an electric vehicle charging station. Both spare you the downtown traffic that stretches the 747-1 towards its 70 minutes.

For a flight before the metro opens, the Lionel-Groulx shortcut is gone, so the 747-1 or a taxi from the door is the plan, and check-in matters as much as location. The Best Western Plus Hotel Montreal, The Mercer, Hôtel Uville and Le Petit Hotel Notre Dame all list a 24-hour front desk. The David Hotel, the two Latin Quarter units and Bresoles Hotel, with its digital check-in, work with private or self check-in and check-out, which suits a 4 am exit with no one at a desk. On board the 747, the driver takes exact change in coins only, never banknotes, so buy the ticket beforehand.

For a long layover or a delayed flight, the facilities differ more than the locations. For a swim, HONEYROSE, which adds a sauna and a hot tub, the Four Seasons Hotel Montreal and the Hilton Garden Inn Midtown all have an indoor pool. Eurostars Old Montreal Suites has a sauna, a steam room and a hammam instead. Bakan, Bresoles Hotel, The Mercer, Eurostars and Habitat give you a kitchen and a washing machine, useful for clean clothes before a long-haul flight. Le Mount Stephen, an 1880 Golden Square Mile mansion joined to a modern tower, the Four Seasons, the Hilton Garden Inn Midtown and Hotel Railwayparc all welcome pets.

A traveler's take

If I had a rental car to return before a morning flight, I would book the Hilton Garden Inn Midtown or Hotel Railwayparc and never cross downtown at rush hour. Without a car, I would sleep in Old Montreal or near Place-des-Arts and use the Lionel-Groulx shortcut: one metro ride and the 747-2 beat the full 747-1 run. For a late arrival, the Latin Quarter apartments near the Berri terminus are the simplest, as long as self check-in without a reception desk suits you. This list is not for travellers who want to walk from their room to the gate: no hotel here does that, and the REM link will not change it before 2027.

Boutique aparthotel in the Latin Quarter with self check-in

Why guests love it

Room 201 is a two-bedroom aparthotel unit in Montreal's Latin Quarter, which gives a family separate sleeping space instead of one shared hotel room. There is no restaurant or front desk listed, so meals happen in the neighbourhood. I recommend it for independent families who like a central base, and the 9.4 rating from 64 reviews is reassuring.

Historic elegance meets modern luxury in Montreal's Golden Square Mile

Why guests love it

Le Mount Stephen combines an 1880 mansion with a modern tower in Montreal's Golden Square Mile, and that mix decides whether it suits your family. It is a five-star address with 90 rooms and suites, marble bathrooms and a spa, so it fits older children and parents who want a refined city stay more than a playful one. Pets are welcome, which helps if the family dog travels too. Bar George, on site, makes dinner simple after a day around downtown.

Bresoles Hotel

Airport · 419 reviews

Old Montreal apartments with kitchens and a rooftop terrace, 100 m from Notre-Dame Basilica

Why guests love it

Bresoles rents apartments, not rooms, and that is the real argument for families: a kitchen means breakfast and snacks on your own schedule, and a washer-dryer handles the laundry that piles up with children. Notre-Dame Basilica is about 100 metres away, and the Old Port, with the Montréal Science Centre on the King Edward Quay and an outdoor skating rink in winter, is an easy walk downhill. What parents give up is staff on site: arrival works with an access code sent by email, and if something is missing or breaks, help comes remotely. With a toddler, that can feel thin. With school-age children and a plan, it works well, and the rooftop terrace gives adults somewhere to sit once the kids are asleep.

Modern comfort with city views and diverse breakfast options

Why guests love it

Breakfast choice is the detail I would underline for families at Hôtel Uville Montréal: continental, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are all offered, which helps when children or parents have dietary needs. Rooms are air-conditioned, with private bathrooms, free WiFi and streaming services for a quiet evening in. Some rooms face a calm street rather than the city. A coffee shop and a 24-hour front desk add convenience, and 520 reviews average 8.9.

Local tips

  1. 1Take the 747-2 rather than the 747-1 whenever you can reach Lionel-Groulx by metro: it stops only there and takes 30 to 35 minutes instead of 45 to 70.
  2. 2Board at door 28 in the international arrivals area at YUL, where the ticket machines accept cash, debit, Visa and Mastercard and the STM counter answers questions.
  3. 3If you pay on the bus, carry coins: drivers take exact change only and no banknotes, so the Chrono app on your phone is the easier backup.
  4. 4Activate a Chrono ticket in the app before the bus arrives, then validate it with the driver within 120 minutes; it cannot be cancelled or refunded once bought.
  5. 5Keep your 747 ticket after landing: it works as a 24-hour pass on the bus, metro, exo trains and REM in zone A, which covers your first day in the city.
  6. 6Parking pay stations near 747 stops sell a one-way ticket to the airport with code 0747, to be used within two hours, but it never works for the trip back.
  7. 7Since 26 January 2026, the downtown terminus is on René-Lévesque at Berri (stop 52905); from Berri-UQAM metro, take Exit B onto Rue Sainte-Catherine Est.
  8. 8Pack for the luggage racks: the STM asks riders to stack luggage vertically, and drivers can refuse oversized bags or bike cases and ask you to wait for the next bus.
  9. 9Check your ticket for the airport code: Montréal Saint-Hubert Longueuil Airport (YHU) is on the South Shore, across the St. Lawrence, and the 747 does not go there.
